Even with so many wedding changes as a result of COVID, they have kept the most positive outlook for their big day, and I can’t wait to see them again soon in Houston. But more importantly, I had the upmost fun getting to know Stephanie and Michael and was grateful to be in the presence of such a genuine, kind, and intentional couple. With hiking trails, a beautiful waterfall, and cold, refreshing water, Chalk Ridge Falls might. All throughout, I could hear the thunder at a distance, but we persevered and at some point, we were gifted with the last bit of sunset before it started raining again. Picturesque doesnt quite do justice to this beautiful area. I loved both of their easy going spirits, and it was fun exploring this scenic park while capturing beautiful frames with the couple and their pup, Scout. Initially, we had a different location planned, but ended up changing plans due to the unexpected rain. Stephanie and Michael both expressed wanting to reflect their passions and loves in their engagement photos, particularly somewhere with rocks and water, and I absolutely think we accomplished that at Chalk Ridge Falls Park. And my kids ran across it 2 or 3 times before we moved on down the trail.The most incredible adventure I’ve had in the last few months. Steel cable suspension bridge downstream from the falls in Chalk Ridge Falls Park, below a dam of Stillhouse Hollow Lake. It made us feel like we were in an adventure movie! This swinging cable bridge (I guess technically it’s called a suspension bridge) moves and creaks beneath you as you cross over. This is something that we had seen pictures of online (mostly Instagram) and my kids were so excited to see it in real life! (Thankful for boardwalks to cross the river.).But, if you prefer, there are also some natural swimming holes below that are popular in the summer. The trail crosses the river several times over bridges. So, keep that in mind if anyone in your group has an issue with those. Chalk Ridge Falls Park is a trail along the Lampasas River as it is released from the Stillhouse Hollow dam. Also, there are several sections that contain stairs. This isn’t too much of an issue, but the trail down to the falls was pretty steep and the mud could make it slippery and could cause a fall. It was very wet after a rain when we went and it was very muddy. With that being said, there are some things that could make this hike difficult for some people. This hiking trail is great because of the variety. We still had plenty of energy left to swim and play at the waterfall, instead of being worn out and dreading the walk back to the car. Chalk Ridge Falls Park is just north of Salado - about a 35 minute drive out of Austin. Plus, unlike the hike we took to Otter Falls in North Carolina, the trail to Chalk Ridge Falls only gains 85 feet in elevation, so it wasn’t super tiring. (The trail runs along the Lampasas River.).This made the hike much more enjoyable, since we weren’t baking in the Texas sun. Lampasas River and ponds on top of chalk. Unlike the hike to Gorman Falls, the trails along the Lampasas River in Belton was mostly shaded. My kids (8 & 10) had no issue with it at all. We went on a Saturday and it was pretty crowded. Getting down to the water is quite steep so it isn’t well suited for elderly. There’s no way for me to know for sure, but I feel like it’s a mile or less round-trip. Visitors rescued from Chalk Bluff Park along Nueces River out the latest. And yet another source said that the waterfall was only 0.25 miles from the parking lot. According to All Trails, the out and back hike is a 2.5 mile walk, but another source I found said 1.3 miles. The hike to Chalk Ridge Falls was much easier than other waterfall hikes that we’ve taken in the past.
